Flutter app development for Android and iOS
Flutter lets you build an app for Android and iOS from a single codebase, with polished interfaces and high performance. I am Gaetano Racioppa, Software Engineer with 7 years of experience in Flutter: I work with companies and startups that want to publish a new app or evolve an existing product without maintaining two separate projects.
I directly take care of requirements analysis, architecture, development, testing and publication on the App Store and Google Play, and I remain your technical contact after release. When needed, the same codebase can be extended to web and desktop.
When Flutter is the right choice
Two apps to maintain
Android and iOS developed separately mean double work for every feature and every fix.
Long time to market
A single codebase reduces duplicated work on the way to the first version.
Inconsistent experience
The app looks and behaves the same on both platforms, while respecting their conventions.
Code that is hard to evolve
A Flutter app with no clear architecture or tests can be tidied up step by step, without stopping releases.
What development includes
- Requirements analysis and feature definition
- App architecture and state management
- Interface development starting from the design, also working with the designer
- Integration with REST APIs and existing backends
- Native integrations (push notifications, camera, geolocation, Bluetooth) when needed
- Unit, widget and integration tests
- Publication on the App Store and Google Play
- Maintenance and new versions
Technologies and how I choose them
The foundation is Flutter with the Dart language. For authentication, real-time data and notifications I use Firebase when it is the simplest route; when there is complex business logic or company systems to integrate, the app connects to a .NET backend or to existing APIs.
Device-specific features are reached through plugins or native code (Kotlin and Swift). If an app depends almost entirely on those features, I say so during analysis: in those cases native development can be the more sensible choice.
Experience
I have worked with Flutter for 7 years, on apps for companies in sectors such as Insurance, FinTech, Retail and Industry 4.0, and I have helped other developers learn the framework. Many projects are covered by confidentiality agreements: during a call I can describe their context, my role and the technical choices.
“Gaetano is a passionate Flutter developer who will go out of their way to teach fundamentals to anyone. He motivates me to always put in extra effort and learn new things. A great addition to the team, i’m sure he will excel in any organization that he joins!”
How I work
- 01
First conversation
A call to understand goals, users, constraints and what already exists.
- 02
Estimate and scope
We define features and priorities together; the estimate is based on the agreed scope.
- 03
Iterative development
Intermediate, verifiable releases, so you can see and try the product as it takes shape.
- 04
Testing and quality
Automated tests and checks on real devices and environments before every release.
- 05
Release
Store publication or go-live, following a repeatable procedure.
- 06
Maintenance and evolution
Fixes, updates and new features after the first release.
Frequently asked questions
Is Flutter suitable for both Android and iOS?
Yes. Flutter code is compiled into native applications for both platforms from a single codebase. Features specific to one operating system are integrated through plugins or native code.
Can an existing backend be integrated?
Yes. A Flutter app talks to any backend that exposes APIs (REST or similar). If the APIs are missing or need adapting, I can develop them or work with the team that manages them.
How much does store publication weigh on the project?
It needs planning. You need Apple and Google developer accounts registered to the company, the store listing material, a privacy policy and to pass the review, whose timing depends on the stores.
Do you look after the code after the first release?
Yes. After publication I handle fixes, the updates required by new Android and iOS versions and new features, on terms agreed case by case.
How much does a Flutter app cost and how long does it take?
It depends on the number of features, the integrations with other systems, the level of polish of the interface and what already exists. That is why I do not publish price lists: after the first conversation I prepare an estimate based on the agreed scope.
