Artificial intelligence
Integrating artificial intelligence into business software
AI that fits into your processes, not an isolated demo. I am Gaetano Racioppa, Software Engineer: I help companies understand where artificial intelligence can bring a concrete advantage and I integrate it into the applications they already use, whether mobile apps, web portals or business software.
Together we assess how to add conversational assistants, document search, OCR or automations. The approach starts from the use case, the available data, the costs and the security requirements; the actual solutions depend on technical feasibility, which I verify before proposing development.
Where AI can be useful
Repetitive requests
A conversational assistant answers the most frequent questions and hands over to a person the cases it cannot handle.
Documents read by hand
OCR and data extraction from invoices, forms and documents, with human review where needed.
Information that is hard to find
Natural-language search across manuals, procedures and company archives.
Manual steps between systems
Automations that connect different applications and reduce copy-and-paste work.
What the integration includes
- Assessment of the use case and of feasibility with the data actually available
- Choice of model and provider based on quality, cost and confidentiality requirements
- Integration through APIs into existing applications (apps, web, business software, channels such as WhatsApp)
- Chatbots, document and image recognition, voice assistants
- Automation of workflows between different systems
- Checking answer quality and handling the cases where the model is wrong
- Cost monitoring and maintenance
Technologies and how I choose them
No single model suits everything. For each use case I compare the available options, from the services of the main language-model providers to specialised components for OCR and image recognition, based on result quality, cost per use and data handling.
AI is a fast-moving field. The most recent techniques, such as agents, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and integration protocols such as MCP, are for me a subject of continuous study and experimentation: I propose them when they suit the use case and are mature enough for a production system.
Experience
I integrate AI features into software products building on my experience in developing apps, backends and system integrations: this is what makes it possible to bring a prototype into a real application, with authentication, error handling and cost control.
How I work
- 01
First conversation
A call to understand goals, users, constraints and what already exists.
- 02
Estimate and scope
We define features and priorities together; the estimate is based on the agreed scope.
- 03
Iterative development
Intermediate, verifiable releases, so you can see and try the product as it takes shape.
- 04
Testing and quality
Automated tests and checks on real devices and environments before every release.
- 05
Release
Store publication or go-live, following a repeatable procedure.
- 06
Maintenance and evolution
Fixes, updates and new features after the first release.
Frequently asked questions
Can AI be added to existing software?
Yes, in most cases. AI features are integrated through APIs, without rewriting the application. It is necessary to check which data is available and how the software can be extended.
Is company data used to train the models?
It depends on the provider and on the terms of the chosen service. It is one of the aspects I assess during analysis: the choice of provider and configuration takes into account confidentiality requirements and data protection law.
Are the answers of an AI chatbot reliable?
Language models can make mistakes. That is why the assistant is limited to controlled sources, answer quality is measured and a handover to a person is provided when the answer is uncertain.
How much does it cost to use an AI model?
Besides development there is a usage-based cost, linked to the number of requests and the amount of text processed. During analysis I estimate volumes and choose model and architecture to keep costs under control.
